Living Free from Bitterness

Hey friend, I’m so glad you’re here
Bitterness is one of those things that sneaks in quietly. It starts with hurt, then grows when we replay the offense, and before long it begins to harden our hearts. What I’ve learned is that bitterness doesn’t just affect the person who hurt us it poisons us too. The Bible warns us, “See to it that no one falls short of the grace of God and that no bitter root grows up to cause trouble and defile many” (Hebrews 12:15, NIV). Bitterness is like a root it digs deep, it spreads, and it chokes out joy if we let it. Living free from bitterness means choosing forgiveness daily, even when the feelings don’t line up. It means praying for the people who hurt us, not because they deserve it, but because God calls us to freedom. It means inviting the Holy Spirit into those places of pain so He can bring healing only He can give. I’ve found that bitterness loses its grip when I shift my focus. Instead of replaying the hurt, I choose to rehearse God’s goodness. Instead of holding on to what someone did, I hold on to what Jesus did for me. Friend, you don’t have to live bound by bitterness. You can live free. And freedom doesn’t mean the hurt never happened it means it no longer controls you.
“Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice. Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.” Ephesians 4:31-32 (NIV)
With love and gratitude, always
Kevi
