Why I Took a Selah: Finding Peace in the Pause

We live in a world that tells us to hustle, grind, and keep going no matter what. There’s always more to do, more to achieve, more to check off the list. But somewhere along the way, I realized that constant busyness was leaving me drained, anxious, and running on empty. I had to learn that rest isn’t a luxury it’s a necessity. It’s not wasted time; it’s holy time. Rest is where God restores us, renews us, and reminds us that we’re not the ones holding the world together He is. For me, this truth became real when I stepped into what I call a life sabbatical, a Selah season. It wasn’t planned, and honestly, it was uncomfortable at first. Slowing down meant facing my own grief, fears, and unanswered questions. But in that pause, God began to heal me in ways I didn’t even know I needed. That Selah also gave me the quiet space to grieve the losses I had faced, the ones I hadn’t slowed down enough to process before. In the stillness, I was able to lay my pain at God’s feet, to cry, to rest, and to finally begin healing. Out of that Selah came things I never expected...peace where there was once restlessness, clarity in place of confusion, and even the birth of this blog. Taking a step back gave God room to step in, and He reminded me that sometimes the greatest growth happens in the stillness. Now, rest looks different depending on the season. Sometimes it’s getting outside in the garden and breathing fresh air. Sometimes it’s curling up with my Bible and a hot cup of tea. Other times, it’s simply giving myself permission to take a nap without guilt. I used to think rest meant I wasn’t being productive, but now I see it as obedience. Even God rested on the seventh day, not because He was tired, but to set the rhythm for us. When I lean into that rhythm, I find more peace, more clarity, and more strength to do the things God has called me to do. If you’re weary, maybe it’s time to release the pressure to “do it all” and let God remind you that your worth isn’t tied to your busyness. You are already loved, already chosen, already enough.
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” Matthew 11:28
With love and gratitude, always
